Summary/Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on the dynamic increase in the share of people performing their professional duties outside the place where it has been provided so far. Millions of employees overnight change the traditional model of work, based on direct contacts with colleagues, to work remotely, most often at home. On the basis of Eurostat research, the change in the share of people working remotely in 2011–2020 was presented – comparing Poland to other European Union countries. The article also attempts to show the differences in defining the terms “telework” and “remote work”. The pandemic prompted the commencement of legislative work aimed at legal validation of the term “remote work” in Polish legislation. The article presents the currently consulted provisions relating to “remote work”, which are to be included in the Labor Code. The text also shows the consequences, advantages and disadvantages of working remotely.
