PROMOTION OF TERRORISM IN THE INTERNET AND COUNTERACTION BY THE EU

Summary/Abstract: The development of the Internet and social media brings many advantages anddisadvantages – including new ways of developing terrorism. Facebook, Twitter andother popular platforms are used by terrorist organizations to recruit and spread theirpropaganda around the world. Using modern techniques, terrorists successfullyradicalize the societies of many European countries – especially young people. This posesnew security challenges for the European Union, which tries to minimize the risk bymeans of new regulations and provisions. A special unit for monitoring the Internet -EU IRU, established in 2015, is one of the main pillars of the fight against Internetterrorism.
