Summary/Abstract: The Safavid Shah Abbas wanted to regain the land he had lost under the Ferhad Pasha agrement in 1590. As such he fought against the Ottomans in the Esast. That, in turn, led to both powers signing of the Nasuh Pasha Treaty. However, the Safavid’s aggressive attitude meant did not allow peace to last beyond three years. The conflict began on the axis of the Caucasus and resulted in the defeat of the Ottomans and the signing of the Treaty of Serav in 1618. The casefire too was permanent because Safavid Shah Abbas had right claims in Arab Iraq. In fact, the turmoil caused by Bekir Subası in Baghdad and the environs only ended because of Safavid’s intervention. Ultimately long-term clashes between the two sides reached their peak when the Safavids captured Baghdad in 1624. Hafız Ahmed Pasha was tried in court for that. He readied his army desert of Diyarbakır for approximately five months (until September 1625) and then marched towards Baghdad Castle, where they besieged it from three sides. In the end, Shah Abbas-under the control of Safavids- eventually pushed the Ottomans out of Baghdad.
