Summary/Abstract: The author of this article analyzes several aspects that are to be found in the Diary of the Polish essayist Jerzy Stempowski who, in his own notes on his travel through Austria and Germany, discloses the disastrous consequences of the war at the level of individual consciousness and the mutations produced in inter-human and interethnic relations. Beyond its documentary value, the Diary stands out for its outstanding literary qualities.
