Summary/Abstract: The aim of this study was to map the existing practice and then to design a distance learning model with the aim to raise the professional capacity of journalists in the media in the national minority languages in the Western Balkans, in both institutional and non-institutional education centres. The basic framework for this is the new digital media technology. The author's intention is to first provide an overview of the existing forms of distance learning in general and for journalists and to determine on what level of education they exist. Then, to test how the training of journalists working in minority media in new media digital technologies could be the most effective if distance learning would be applied because it is the common denominator. The methods used in this paper: a) description method combined with the method of scientific interviews, b) modelling method. The technique for collection of information is the interview. The main results indicate that so far there are no sufficiently developed distance learning programs in the Western Balkans. Distance learning would enable journalists from minority media to raise their lingual and professional competence. Possible model of networking universities and training centres in native countries of journalists of minority media and countries where they live and work.
