Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to highlight the importance of the cultural and religious centre of Ohrid (Western Macedonia) in the ancient and medieval period, which had an uninterrupted tradition in the Slavic writing. The literary work of St. Climent and St. Naum, their endeavour to keep the Glagolitic alphabet, the first Slavic alphabet, and the rejection of the new Cyrillic one are issues discussed in this article. At the same time, there are uttered the main characteristics of Ohrid literary school during that time.
