THE MANUSCRIPT COLLECTION OF SPIRITUAL POETRY FROM 1819

Summary/Abstract: A description of a manuscript collecion of spiritual poetry of Mihal Gali from 1918 is given in the supplement. The author considesr it to be the oldest dated Ruthenian manuscript from Southern Hungary known in literature. The description of the collections is followed by a list of poems included in it and parallels are given for individual poems from similar Ruthenian collections from these region from the second half of the 19th century, from Bohohlasnyk from 1790 and from the collections od Ivan Juhasevič from 1812. Based on the analysis of the parallels, the author concludes that in M. Gali's collection more than half of the 79 poems have parallels in the previosly mentioned Ruthenian collections from the second half of the 19th century, and I. Juhasevich collection from 1812 , and a little less, only 15, from Bohohlasnyk from 1790. Comparing the examples of the selected excerpts from the poems from the collection of M. Gali with the parallel poems from the collections mentioned above, similarities and differences in the text, language and graphics are pointed out in order to accentuate the similarities that indicate the origin of texts from the same manuscript or similar prototypes. Comparing the selected passages, the author especially points out the characteristic examples of incorrect transmission of certain words in the Church Slavonic language in the collection of M. Gali and other Ruthenian collections, probably because the copyists did not understand them, as well as the examples of incorrect writing of words, together and separately, because the author believes that these deformed words and the same errors that appear in these collections indicate the closeness of individual manuscripts and that they most likely originate from the same collection/collections of prototypes. However, such conclusions require much broader research on a larger corpus of manuscript collections
