Summary/Abstract: In a French 18th century marked by the scientific progress and by the natural religion, dominant in the vision of the great thinkers of the time, Denis Diderot wrote a revolutionary text for dramatic art : Le Paradoxe sur le comédien, which offered a new focus on the stage performance. The actor’s body is no longer a simple packaging of the character, but a shapeable, transformable, controllable material, especially as far as emotions are concerned.
