Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to analyze characters‘ names in Ladislav Ballek writings of his so-called Palanok period. The books Southern Post (Južná pošta), Helper (Pomocník), Acacia Trees (Agáty), Forest Theatre (Lesné divadlo), Weird Sleeper of Slovak Paradise (Čudný spáč zo Slovenského raja) are discussed. The paper emphasizes the function, types, ways of creating characters´ names in literature, and their position in the onymic system of the books as well as his entire writing period.
