Summary/Abstract: The distribution of the social product into the necessary product and the surplus of products remains necessary also in the socialist economy, although a part of Yugoslav theory advocated the homogenous character of the newly created value, while having in mind the changed relationship between hired labour and capital. The arguments in favour of mentioned opinion can be classified into four groups: (1) rational calculation of normal procès requires clear distribution of costs; (2) macro-economic balance can not be achieved without coordinated proportions between the necessary product and the surplus of products; (3) this relationship is a prerequisite for participation of private (individual) and social (public) ownership in the acquiring of social product; and (4) the structure of needs requires the respect for such differences. Obviously, the nature of necessary product and the surplus of products in the socialist economy is different in comparison to the hired labour and the surplus value.
