Summary/Abstract: The lack of special theory of economic policy of the self-management socialism, together with the supremacy of political factor in the development of Yugoslav economy have created an open space for voluntaristic and ad hoc behaviour of progatonists of economic policy. In order to establish a rational concept of economic policy in the future economic development it is necessary, first of all, to effect the reform of the economic system, which presupposes new ownership relations, clearly defined relationship between the market and the planning, the change of behaviour of the enterprises (including their new object function) and the recognition of state as protagonist of economic policy. Under such conditions and in a new market environment it is posible to elaborate the unified concept of economic policy, which would consistently join the aims, the protagonists and the instruments of economic policy. In such a way economic policy would contribute to the increase of efficiency, to equality and stability of a contemporary, mixed economy - which should be the goal of transformation of the present-day Yugoslav economy.
