Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the emergence of rock and roll and its development, both in Yugoslavia and Montenegro. The problems that slowed down the development of this direction of music are presented, as well as the influence of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia on its development. Rock'n'roll trends that were existing in the country, its impact on the lives of young people, as well as the subculture that emerged alongside it, are covered. Special attention is paid to the development of rock and roll in Montenegro, bands that performed in that period, as well as festivals that were organized. Finally, a look at the state of rock and roll today. When writing the paper, monographs, memoirs, encyclopedias, scientific papers, newspaper articles and internet portals were used. The newspaper articles from the daily Pobjeda and Jukebox magazine were used as a primary historical source for the part about Montenegro,.
