Summary/Abstract: The Islamic recognition of the otherness is not the forced concession to the harsh reality of plurality and interdepended world. In contrary, the Islam recognizes and accepts the otherness not because of the tactical interests, but for the reason of principle. The author elaborates a few principles and precendences from the early history of Islam that make the "liberal ethos" of Islam, such as the priority of the justice over the religious formalism and the acceptance and generous returning of the goods of non-Muslims by Muhammad, and the peace with him. The conclusion is that the Islamic sources don't leave any room for the religious indifference, agnosticism and moral relativism in their extreme forms, but the Islam knows that relativism that appears to be the condition for the functioning of the multireligious society.
