Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the employment structure of older people in the financial sector in the Czech Republic and the experiences of women and men aged 50+ with both the extension of their working lives and redundancies in connection with ongoing digitalisation and reorganisation in this sector. We focus on how redundancies are perceived by older workers in this field in connection with their changing working conditions. Qualitative research on working conditions, the experience of redundancy and the retirement of women and men aged 50+ confirms that older workers are at significant risk of redundancy. For older women and men redundancy is a considerable source of stress. Men perceive redundancy relatively confidently and consider and/or opt for early retirement if they do not have breadwinning responsibilities. For women and for men with financial responsibilities in the family, early retirement is not an alternative. Women experience the extension of their working lives with the fear of redundancy and remain longer in their positions than they would otherwise prefer in an attempt to accumulate higher incomes for a sufficient level of pension income.
