Summary/Abstract: The ethnic and religious issue is a subject of frequent discussions not only within the society of the Republic of Northern Macedonia but also outside it (including and especially in Bulgaria). The country's significant Albanian community, as well as the fact that the majority of ethnic Albanians profess Islam, are often debated as to whether there is a security challenge in the Western Balkans' region, including whether there is a threat to the country's territorial integrity. A significant part of these discussions are purely political, aimed at sending messages to the public and therefore do not contain important details of the issue that are crucial for proper analysis.
