Summary/Abstract: This study is an attempt to compare the process of rehabilitating sociology in Romania and Hungary. The process took place between 1956 and 1970, during the communist regime, but with significant differences. The differences between the two countries arose due to different socio‑ logical traditions and the different view of the two communist parties on sociology. Rehabilitation priorities were also different: in Romania they focused on the rapid introduction of sociological education, while in Hungary the priority was the organization of research institutes and research itself. In both countries, the control of the Communist Party was permanent, but with different fluctuations and intensity.
