Summary/Abstract: Why did Pippi Longstocking, the fictional character created by the Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren, become one of the most popular icons of contemporary feminism? Examining the development of the riot grrrls music trend and the anarcho-punk aesthetic, the answer can be quickly found. A question arises about girlhood as a strategy and a subversive solution drawing on literary prototypes of the “odd child” who will not grow old.
