Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the elements of folk imagery in Gogol’s novel Vij. It’s a common fact the huge influence of Ukrainian and Russian folklore in Gogol’s masterpieces and we tried to find out the folk roots of some motifs used by the Russian writer: demons, witches, vampires and so on, as one can read mainly in the novel above.
