Summary/Abstract: This article addresses some attempts at classifyng terminological variability. Terminological variability is a rather interesting and complicated phenomenon characterised by versatile and multifaceted manifestations that may be studied from a variety of perspectives. The question of the classification of terminological variability is becoming increasingly relevant in contemporary terminology. This is due to the fact that continuous advances in various scientific fields, the discovery of new realia and the acquisition of new knowledge lead to the emergence of new terminological units that reflect the acquired knowledge at the linguistic level. Each new term denoting a new concept seeks, colloquially speaking, to “settle” itself in a pre-existing classification. The article dis-cusses several classifications defined on the basis of different approaches and criteria.
