Summary/Abstract: This article presents the role played by the army in the early phase of shaping Algerian independence, that is in the years 1962—1965. The aim of this article is a brief description of major events in Algerian political life during this period, putting particular emphasis on the turning point in Algerian twentieth‑‑ century history — Colonel Boumedienne’s coup d’état.
