Summary/Abstract: The geographically and administratively distinct area of the left bank of the Danube in Romania is traditionally referred to as Banatska or, more often, as the Danube Gorge (unlike the right bank, which belongs to the Republic of Serbia, which is called Đerdapska klisura). In the area of the Danube Gorge, along with Romanian settlements, there are bunch of villages where Serbs make or have made the majority. These are: Baziaş, Diviç, Belobreşca, Radimna, Pojejena, Măceşti, Moldova Veche, Liubcova and Svinița.The aim of this paper is to present traditional dances of the Serbs in the Danube Gorge based on field research (which includes interviews, filming and audio recording of demonstrations of kinetic and melodic patterns of individual dances, as well as participant observation of the several dance events recorded in Stara Moldava). At the same the focus will be put forward the contemporary dance practice of the Serbs in this area. Which dances during the 20th century made a distinctive feature of the Serbian repertoire of the Gorge? What technical and stylistic features were the bases of their ethnic differentiation? On the other hand, what dance repertoire is performed in Serbian settlements in the Gorge nowadays? In what way are they performed? Is it possible to talk about the continuity of dance tradition in this area and what are the perspectives of its maintenance in the future?
