Summary/Abstract: The change of the context of the functioning of literature after 1989 as well as transformations of contemporary literary life, motivated by various reasons, lead to the need for the inclusion to the study of literature new or insufficiently penetrated thematic spheres. One of the issues worth discussing and more and more present in the scope of both critics and scholars, is the book cover perceived as a meaningful element of the work and its unnatural characteristics. The article shows to what extent the covers has recently become the source of knowledge on the author and the work itself; how writers identify themselves through them; how they present and demystify undertaken strategies; how literature functions under the pressure of mass and media culture as well as various marketing procedures and the influences of celebrity-oriented popculture.
