Summary/Abstract: Twitter reflects some social and cultural changes in the perception of literature. Influencing the relationship of sender and recipient, new media of communication transform reading habits. The article, drawing on the media and literary studies research, offers a description of most recognisable communication activities initiated by the users of Twitter. The main hypothesis concerning the influence of services counted among the Web 2.0 trend onto the social and cultural status of literature is the following: the future of literature depends to a large extent on the generational change of Internet users as well as on their new media competence.
