Summary/Abstract: Fifty years after the publication of Aleksander Hertz’s Jews in Polish Culture the author poses a question whether a contemporary reader can find anything new in this book: i.e., whether its value is purely historical or is it a vital element of today’s thinking and its creative factor, which opens new horizons for the understanding of the status quo. These two characteristics – antiquarian and actual – even though seemingly different do not have to be mutually excluding. Quite contrarily, they seem to supplement one another.
