Archival Education in Czechoslovakia, 1918–1938: Sudeten German Connections

Summary/Abstract: This article is a contribution to a better understanding of the role of Sudeten German academic circles to archival education in the Czechoslovak First Republic (1918–1938). It is divided in three parts. The first is dedicated to efforts to establish separate courses in archival science at the German University in Prague, which were intended to function as a counterpart of the Czech Archival School. The second part presents steps taken by the Faculty of Philosophy of the German University whose aim was to introduce at least some subjects that could be used in the education of archivists. The last part then investigates efforts to transfer archival knowledge and skills into the Czech–German border areas using short-term courses in archival science.
