Official Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Institute of History

Summary/Abstract: The solemn celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Institute of History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was held in the Main Hall of the Academy. It was presided over by Corresponding Member K. Kossev. The Minister of Education V. Metodiev addressed those present with greetings. Congratulations addressed to the Institute of History on the occasion of the jubilee by the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences I. Yuhnovski, and by the President of the National Assembly Y. Sokolov were read. The Director of the Institute Prof. G. Markov delivered a report entitles “50 Years of the Institute of History at Bulgarian Academy of Sciences”, which outlined the main events in the activity of the Institute during the past five decades. Congratulations and greetings to the Institute were read by representatives of related research institutes and centers at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, universities and museums in Sofia and the country, of scientific state and public institutions which in their activities have points of contact with the Institute of History. Numerous greetings were received also from universities and institutes of learning from all parts of Europe. Prof. V. Tupkova-Zaimova and Prof. N. Zhechev recounted interesting recollections form their long work at the Institute. Then the participation in the celebration laid wreaths and the Grave of the Unknown Soldier next to the Church of St. Sofia. Later at the Club-Restaurant of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was given a modest cocktail-party for the participants and guest of the jubilee celebration. In a cordial atmosphere they were able to share their memories, their festive mood and sentiments.
