Summary/Abstract: In this contribution we refer to the relation between architecture and water – the architecture of thermal baths. In one of Grace Dubon’s works as a student she refers to her participation to a complex design project mixing three functions: a wellness center, a restaurant and a hotel. This architectural program is not new, we studied, analyzed and researched in archives and in the field a similar historical approach: the Gellert Hotel and Thermal Baths in Budapest. For a new design project the approach is however different. Several steps must be followed, from analyzing the predecessors’ works (existing similar buildings, waterfront analysis), analyzing the building typology and site, analyzing functions (in diagrams, using time savers such as Neufert etc.), to the work with volumes, in model and in digital parametric design. The lighting issue, very important for this architectural program, is taken into account. In the process of searching for precedent models we analyzed the Turkish baths and other types of functional combinations, such as a hospital’s thermal bath. There is such an example in Budapest (Veli Bej) and Ned’ar and Doczy also designed such a thermal bath in the city of Kiskunf’elegyh’aza. The options in such alternatives will be discussed.
