Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to revive a mode of thinking and of writing, which had to be annihilated without a trace – together with the people who represented it. The thought had to break forever with the morality, the feeling had to disappear from our pages, the culture – this profound harmony with “l’Esprit” – had to be replaced by the information. The integral perception of the world had to be shattered into small pieces to peep with one eye through. But the possibility to revive this mode of expression and of understanding proves that “l’Esprit” is indestructible and everybody who tries to mutilate it prepares his own downfall. The term of historical synthesis – we have chosen it as title of the new heading which this article opens - is proposed by Peter Bitzilli in his wonderful “Sketches upon the Theory of The Historical Scholarship”. He proves there that the current concept “philosophy of history” contains an intrinsic contradiction and its essence may and must be expressed by two other concepts – historical synthesis and philosophy of culture.
