Summary/Abstract: The often iconic image of a cultural center is the result of the search for the architectural-volumetric aesthetics, but above this, the compositional result of the in site layout that has as goal the creation of an unmistakable, memorable and contemporary place. The issue concerning the integration of ensembles like “cultural centers” in an existing urban tissue and adapting it to the conditions of the site, the way in which it contributes to the revitalization of certain urban areas and in defining new relations on an urban scale, makes it a current subject. The article synthesizes and goes through some types of cultural centers from around the world and shortly presents, as an example in Romania, the project “Transylvania Cultural Center 2020”.
