Summary/Abstract: Șerban Stănciulescu asserted his vocation for freedom in his teenage years. In 1977, he joined the Human Rights Movement initiated by Paul Goma. Being constantly harassed by the Securitate, along with other young people, he was a member of the Balta Brăilei Group, named after the area where some of them have been sent to a labour camp by the communist regime. When he arrived in the West, in 1978, the director of the Romanian Department of Radio Free Europe Noel Bernard, impressed by his education and individuality, offered him to hold a series of musical encounters in the show „Metronom".
