The Teaching of History in Sofia (Results of a Survey)

Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the results of a survey carried in the capital with the teachers of history. The aim of the survey was to find the opinions of the teachers of history about the basic problems at the teaching of this subject in the Bulgarian schools. Through the survey the teachers expressed their attitude towards the program and the principles of structuring the contents of the teaching material. The opinion that the Bulgarian history has to be thought as a part of the European and global process, was widespread. The most interesting were the advises concerning the textbooks that are used in the schools. Precise opinions were given about dosage of the information, about the style and the vocabulary of the texts, about the quality of the illustrations, about the merits and the deficiencies of the recently edited textbooks of history. Generally, the survey gave a correct and true information for the entire process of teaching of history in the Bulgarian schools.
