Summary/Abstract: The present article deals with the foundation myths of two Hellenic colonies in Thrace that undergo significant changes with the inclusion of the Thracian element, precisely Abderaand Byzantion. The change observed is radical as until that time the local tribes were only presented in the light of the antagonistic relations between the colonists and locals. It seems, however, that this was changed and in the late Hellenistic period the Thracians were already closely attached to the foundation of the city itself and the Hellenic cities in fact inherited earlier Thracian settlements which allowed the former to be included into the local genealogies. Certainly, the specifics in the foundation traditions in both cities under consideration here, as well as the specifics of the political development impacted on the way into which these changes were made, determine the aspects of the new foundation myths.
