The Legal Framework of Vox Pops in Television

Summary/Abstract: Aim of the work The legal framework of vox pops in television is to map the current legislation and regulation of the media, specifically television, in the field of implementation and broadcasting of vox pops in Slovakia and at the same time outline current practice from the perspective of television reporters who use vox pops in their work. Through a study of legislative documents such as the Constitution of the Slovak Republic, the Civil Code or the Broadcasting and Retransmission Act, we found that the vox pop in television is not separately defined, but we believe that it falls under the protection of personality, privacy or minors. We have elaborated these frameworks, together with the ethical ones. At the same time, we bring theoretical and practical knowledge about a vox pops in television, on which journalists do not have an identical opinion. Thanks to interviews with representatives of RTVS, TV Markíza, TV JOJ and TA3, we also bring a practical view of the survey and its use in Slovak television news.
