Title and Perex of a Journalistic Text as an Indicator of Social Position of Marián Kočner in the Gamatex Case

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the results of a research probe focused on (quantitative-qualitative) analysis with elements of discursive analysis of headlines and perexes of journalistic texts informing about the Gamatex case in the period from August to October 1998. The study includes content analysis of texts from the same thematic focus and time whose author was Peter Tóth, later Kočner's known friend and close collaborator. We pay special attention to him in the context of his friendly ties to Marián Kočner. The focus of the authors of the article is the search for answers to the questions: How is one of the actors in the Ga- matex case – Marián Kočner – identified in the headlines and perexes? What attributes do the media grant him? What social status did Marián Kočner hold in the media in the period under review? The result of the author's effort, which includes an analysis of 22 titles and perexes and 17 Peter Toth`s text`s, is the knowledge that Marián Kočner in the Gamatex case appears exclusively as one of the saving parties. On the other hand, the author's bias against his person is not legible and at the same time, no fixed attribute is related to M. Kočner.
