Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the evolution of the use of short and long forms in the expression of cardinal numbers from 100 to 900 in Bosnian, Montenegrin, Croatian and Serbian. The author gives the historical and dialectological overview without which the state of the current language cannot be judged. He also pays particular attention to the data and views contained in the language manuals concerning the “status” of one-element short forms with sto.
