Jesuit Vendelín Javorka: an exceptional church personality

Summary/Abstract: Vendelín Javorka belongs among the exceptional personalities of the Slovak Church whose influence transcended the borders of Slovakia where he lived most of his life. Over the last ten years, this hero of the faith has received increasing professional attention. The Society of Jesus in Slovakia and the Diocese of Žilina are trying to spread his veneration among both the professional and lay public so that the process of beatification can begin.In this article, we will present the basic milestones of his exceptional life in Slovakia, Rome, the Far East, the gulags of the USSR, and finally in Žilina where he died. His example of exceptional faith, his level of education, his obedience to the Church and acceptance of suffering – all these make him an exceptional personality who can be an inspiration to us.
