Summary/Abstract: The focus of this study is on usage of anaphora in two different types of stories: those written for adults and those written for children. We approached this problem with the expectation that writers of children’s stories, when taking the perspective of their young audience, would try to make their referring procedures simpler. In order to check our hypothesis, we compared anaphora in the two stories for children and two stories for adults. However, the results of our analysis go against our hypothesis. Namely, both the authors for children and those for adults use approximatelly the same strategies when applying cohesive devices, meaning that both the children and the adults will be expected to perform a pragmatic resolution of these devices.
