Summary/Abstract: Through the two main characters, Maria, a young woman from Torino and her companion, Lucien, a French painter and alter ego of the author, Où les eaux se partagent offers two contradictory visions of Sicily. Celebrating difference, Fernandez’s novel attempts to create a new Sicily by confronting antithetical but complementary portraits and by insisting on the wealth that cultural and religious syncretism establishes.
