Summary/Abstract: The means of communication used by man have always been more than tools for transmitting simple messages or thoughts. Humanity has lived thousands of years in primary oral condition, before any abstract sign of the written letter existed. In those conditions, the perpetuation of collective memory, through standard formulas that supported expression and the transfer of knowledge, was the supreme wish. Writing as a manmade tékhnē, based on the invention of the alphabet, would have profoundly transformed the thinking. Walter Ong's theory of secondary orality in the post print era is the subject of reference in this article. Television, smartphones and the Internet are fully developing the peculiarities of oral thinking. The consequences directly concern the dilution of the benefits offered to the reason by the literacy, the critical thinking, the individuality, the logical reasoning, process of which the language is part, validated in the pragmatics of the daily experiences of life.
