Summary/Abstract: The musical folklore in the Rhodopes in general and particularly in the region of Velingrad (as a middle ground between the Rhodopes and the region of Pirin) has attracted the attention of specialists for almost a century. The contemporary researchers have the opportunity to observe the musical phenomena they study in a broad interval of time and thus distinguish the sustainable characteristics of the musical folklore in relation to the studied dialect in the observed time period. This paper presents the general, detailed and different structures of building polyphony in the regions of Velingrad and Pirin in view of providing evidence to the common genesis of their musical folklore. The author expands the radius of comparisons as she presents structural variants from the Eastern Rhodopes, the region of Pazardzhik-Ihtiman, but also from the Shopluk region.
