Summary/Abstract: The article examines the relationship between selected indicators of socio-economic development and the demand for insurance. For this purpose, an econometric model was built, in which the value of gross written premium was assumed as the dependent variable (the variable represents the demand for insurance). On the other hand, the set of explanatory variables (representing socio-economic devel- opment) includes, inter alia, poverty index, voter unpopularity index, stabilization policy index, compo- nents of the Human Development Index – HDI (life expectancy index, educational index, income index) and sub-indexes of the Index of Economic Freedom – IEF (e.g. property rights, tax burdens, expenditure government, business freedom, labor market freedom, trade freedom, investment freedom, financial freedom). The adopted scope of the research covers the years 2004–2019. Econometric modeling was performed in the Gretl program. Based on the econometric analysis, it was found that among the factors of socio-economic devel- opment, it was the educational index, labor market freedom, trade freedom and investment freedom that best explained the value of gross written premium in Poland in 2004–2019. It is worth noting that only the education index had a negative impact.
