Summary/Abstract: Béla Márkus, a professor of the Debrecen University has drawn an interesting, tought-provoking picture of the inner conflicts of the pre-war literary life looking at a little but decisive episode in the life of János Barta, Márkus' great predecessor in literary history at the Debrecen University. Paralel to the world of texts exists the personal world of writers, in which even Babits is a fallible being exposed to his own sensitivity, and cannot cope with the "uneducated naivity", that is with the genuine and independent judgement of the excellent young scholar.
