Summary/Abstract: This essay-like excerpt from Tibor Papp's (Paris) novel has been published in the column called Loving Geography. In this writing the author leaves behind all the avantgard frills he used to like before and writes about his childhood spent in the country - especially about his experiences with old people - in an expressive language which is near to realistic prose. Vállalj - a village in Nagykároly District, Szabolcs-Szatmár County -, preserved as the island of childhood was full of the wonders of old traditions, which appear not only in talking about the fairies of the moors, but also in describing everyday events - bathing, going to church, sliding on ice, etc. - with a nearly ethnographic accuracy.
