Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the issue of violence against women in intimate relationships (IPV). The aim of the article is to determine the influence of situational factors on the change of strategies at the level of women’s decision-making with a focus on a specific factor, namely the behavior of men. Research methods were used to obtain the data: an anamnestic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. The research participants were contacted through organizations providing specialized services to women experiencing violence in IPV. The results point to the fact that the nature of the violence that most influences the change of women’s decision-making strategies is related to the escalation of the intensity, frequency and duration of the violence committed. The most common forms of violence are mainly psychological violence, as well as physical violence in various forms. Women were motivated to change by the growing aggression of men, the increasing brutality of attacks, the escalation of violence, when serious injuries occurred.
