Summary/Abstract: The analysed period comprises the time between 1970 until 1985. After 1970 in the countries of Eastern Europe is established the so called “real Socialism”, the crisis of which brought about the Gorbachev’s “perestroika”. But in the period 1970–1985 few scholars could imagine that there will be such a nationalist explosion, that in the 90s of the 20th century will have take over almost the entire Eastern Europe. In the study are reviewed the works of eminent American scholars such as C. Deutsch, B. Shafer, A.D. Smith, J. Amstrong, L. Snyder, P. Sugar, R. King and other historians, politologists, and economists, some of them students of the American school for research of the nationalism in its global aspect, created by C. Hayes and H. Kohn. In the study are placed reviews not only of historians, but of researchers in the humanitarian sciences, directly involved in the study of the nationalism. The author attempts to review critically the literature. He attempts to present the basic concepts of the American scholars of the nationalism, as a phenomena of the historical development and in particular, its appearance in the past, the present and their views about its future development in the Balkan region of Europe. In the study the author attempts to present those authors who have good knowledge of the facts of the histories of the countries of Eastern Europe and in whose writings we find insights applicable for the present and probably for the future.
