Summary/Abstract: For nearly 27 years, John Paul II was the head of the Catholic Church. Thanks to his commitment to the politics of that time, he was not only registered as the leader of the Holy See. He was involved in the resolution of many conflicts. An example of this commitment is his mediation during a difficult situation in the collapsing Yugoslavia. He repeatedly appealed to international public opinion, sides in conflict, but also faithful and religious leaders for peaceful resolution of disputes. He became a kind of spokesperson for the ecumenical and interreligious dialogue, including with Muslims. The article will analyse selected speeches of John Paul II from 1991–1995, given in various circumstances of the memorable conflict in the Balkans. He mentioned this situation during general audiences, reflections before the Angelus prayer, during meetings with the diplomatic corps and even foreign pilgrimages to various countries. Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) as an interdisciplinary method of research, will allow us to look at the words of John Paul II in a broader social and political context
