Summary/Abstract: Since Poland became a member of the European Union, the institutional formsof care of young and preschool children were aligned with the standards applied in the EU countries. This was necessary during the transition to a market economy as the number ofyoung child care institutions was the smallest among the other EU states. Only children whowere about to start school education were provided with one-year preparatory course in theexisting preschool framework.
