Summary/Abstract: The events of recent years have changed our perception of migration processes. From local, almost incidental occurrence, they have become practically permanent phe- nomena with various strength and intensity occurring on each continent. Modern migrations have different forms, diversified causes and unpredictable consequences. It turns out that climate change and environmental degradation are the most common causes, although not the only ones. However, the number of arrivals continues to surprise causing consternation of societies and rulers. The lack of appropriate solu- tions, on the basis of international law, further exacerbates the frustration of those who need help and those who provide assistance.
