Summary/Abstract: The iconic buildings of international hotel networks became an obvious symbol of the dominance of the United States after World War Two. In the 1950s they were built in South America, Western Europe and the Near East. A decade later, their operators began striving for advantageous positions in the Eastern Bloc, too.
