Summary/Abstract: This article is an attempt at a comprehensive study of the brief history (April 1871 – May 1872) of the Central Bulgarian Revolutionary Committee (CBRC), the leading body of the organization of the committees in Bulgaria until the general assembly of representatives of the local revolutionary committees held in Bucharest in April – May 1972. In it are followed up and analysed the formation and the first steps of the CBRC, directed to defining its functions, structure and place in the life of the organization and to strengthening the ties with the local committee structures. The members of the Central Revolutionary Committee, whose seat was in the town of Lovech, are given, as well as the circle of its closest collaborators, the posts of the members of the Central Committee, the changes in all elements of greater importance in the clandestine activity and the gradual expansion of the material base of the Committee. Considerable space is devoted to the organizational and other activities of the Central Revolutionary Committee and especially to its meetings and decisions, to the preparations for the “principal meeting” in Bucharest. The two periods in the development and work of the CBRC are outlined. The author relies almost fully on the known sources, including those discovered and published in the last few years, trying to make as full use of them as possible, to extract all the information they provide on the theme, to look into and compare the facts and data they contain.
